South Carolina Civil Justice Coalition Studies
Future Direction
In the areas of tort reform and workers compensation, SCCJC has made significant legislative progress strengthening the business climate for current and future businesses and industries in South Carolina.
Tort reform passed by the SC General Assembly in 2005 and 2011 moved the state into a more business friendly atmosphere, and in 2007 the work on Workers’ Compensation brought significant changes at the commission, again making South Carolina a better place to run businesses.
Following the 2011 Legislative Session, SCCJC is evaluating the laws, state regulations and judicial decisions that may affect the state’s business climate. Although there remain numerous issues worth pursuing, SCCJC has formed review committees to formulate its future legislative direction.
Upon the conclusion and evaluation of the committees’ recommendations, SCCJC will draft its new legislative agenda and retain its prominent position at the forefront of legislative activity for the betterment of the business community.
SCCJC continues to be a leader and major player in those civil justice issues that make South Carolina a strong, business-friendly state.
