     Governor Sanford’s Press Conference on Objective Standards

The South Carolina Civil Justice Coalition supports the Governor in his effort to improve the fairness and equity of awards for the State’s workers’ compensation system.

We have consistently promoted the use of objective standards to make this system more stable and predictable.

Today, South Carolina joins with 32 other states in using objective standards for workers’ comp awards.

Currently, North Carolina and Georgia have lower workers’ compensation premiums than South Carolina. By requiring the use of objective standards, we have taken a step towards lowering business costs and making South Carolina more competitive with neighboring states.
