In addition, the executive order requires the workers' compensation commissioners to provide quarterly written reports showing their compliance.
On October 24, 2007 Issued two new Workers' Compensation Executive Orders.
2008 State of the State Address - Governor Mark Sanford
Governor Mark Sanford said in the State of the State:
"Through we still have many miles to go on this front, we passed workers' compensation reform that represents a down payment in improving soil conditions for businesses large and small."
"We continue to know that good business environment rests on certainly. Our Workers' Compensation Commission awards are anything but predictable for the way that they are subjective and treat workers differently. It's not fair to workers, and not good for business, and so I ask you help us in pushing toward objective standards in workers' compensation."
Current Issues
S.332 - Workers' Compensation Reform - Passed- Signed into law on June 25, 2007.
Our current system is a silent job killer. It holds wages down and strains employers ability to operate because of:
- A lottery-like award system that hurts both employers and many employees
- Skyrocketing costs driven in part by the involvement of TV lawyers
- Liberal judges who make their own laws rather than follow those on the books. They are unaccountable and too often lack common sense
All this discourages potential new businesses from locating in South Carolina. While other states get good new jobs we get left climbing the unemployment rankings.
Additional Issues
-
- S.82 - False Claims Act - Oppose
- H.3725 - Expert Testimony Standards
